Co AL. Is a
- route called Speegle Blaze. On one of her many mission of
mercy,
- Winifred Cranford Speegle courageously braved the thick woods
and roving
- wild animals to blaze a trail along this route.To help the
wilderness
- dwellers in their tmes of need and sicknsss. With the coming
of the Civil War.
- The Speegle family felt the tragedy in a way known only to
those who had sons
- fighting on both sides. Three of David and Winifred sons
served in the Union Army.
- While two fought wth the Confederacy. Union Army : Carroll
K. Speegle,
- David H. Speegle and Thomas C. Speegle. Confederate Army
John C. Speegle and
- Daniel Martin Speegle. Daniel Martin Speegle was the only
one to come home
- Two who served with the Union died south of Nashville TN.
and the two who were with
- the Confederacy were killed between Vicksburg and Jackson
Miss. after
- the terribe siege of the river port. There were two son-in-laws
that also died during the war
- David and Winifred are buried at Brushy Creek AL. Most of
these Speegles were
- in Morgan, Cullman and Winston Counties in AL.
